The Walk: Fitness Tracker Game App Reviews

Awful customer supprt for buggy app

Like others, I am having issues with this game involving activity tracking. Sometimes it works OK and other times it will hardly track at all. I have had this game for some time but havent used it in about a year so I remember it working much better in the past. I contacted Customer No-Service and gave them many details, even the fact that it doesnt even track equally on 2 different devices. As well as not getting notifications from the app as I should. After several e-mails with as many details I could come up with to help them track the bugs, they finally replied with "So youre aware, The Walk has been specifically designed to be a pedometer, not an activity tracker. Because of this it will only detect walking movement, not any more general movement you do during the day." And a very long list of how I had to be doing it all wrong and how I didnt understand how a pedometer/iphone accelerometer worked so I wasnt using the app correctly. I sent them back an email addressing every one of their points on Saturday and today added a note that they should read the reviews on iTunes. I cant believe every one of us is so stupid we cant figure it out. If they get back to me with a better thought out response, even a "wow, we didnt know it was this bad" then I will give this app another star. If they get it fixed and I get an apology from them, then it will get more.

Fantastic

This is a great way to entertain and motivate yourself into being active. Ive played the first 8 missions and the only glitch Ive found is that it lags if I keep it open in the background for several hours. However, closing and restarting it brings it right back with no loss of my activity.

This is not fun. At all.

I expected this to be something I would launch at the start of my walk and the narrations would play in real time and items would be automatically picked up. Instead, I have to constantly fiddle with my phone during my exercise, OR sit around for 15 minutes afterwards listening to little story clips and clicking useless white boxes. The special routes give you "collectibles" that arent useful, funny, relevant, or interesting. Im deleting it for now. I may download again later if they update this and make it useful and fun.

I love the story!

The story is awesome and it makes me walk further to get to the end of each episode. Sometimes it is a bit buggy and has issues with loading but otherwise it is fantastic!

Does not work

It wont track my steps at all! Looked promising and fun but couldnt get it to work.

A must-have app to go the extra mile !!

Amazing app to keep you fit: the graphics and story definitely make it worth your while. The story line is so gripping youll want to walk that extra mile just to hear the rest of it. This is my favourite app to make sure I do my daily 30mns of walking !!

Very nice app. Encourages me to walk more! :-)

You unlock more content the longer you walk. It adapts the length of an episode depending on your activity level. You’re taking part in the gameplay while you are walking.

outdated

This used to be a very cool and exciting game, but playing it again on a new iPhone 6s is a pain... they clearly havent put any energy in the game in the last years; starting it now would be a waste of your money :( And I am saying this as a former fan

IT IS SO GOOD!

Six to start, they never fail to impress by integrating fitness and fun!

So Far So Good

I tried it today while out walking with my dog. I do have to play a bit with it more to get completely familiarize with it but so far I have not been disappointed. Its a good Winter alternative to ZR (after all ice and zombies are not a good combination at all!)

Its -20C !

I gotta touch my phone to use this? Ill check back in the summer.

Um

Doesnt even recognize me walking so whats the point?

Good but...

Good but I need to touch the app to collect clue and scanning for information, etc. You must have the iPhone, iPad or iPod in your hands all the time to interact with the app... is winter here... In the app description said put in your pocket or purse ????

Different from Zombies, Run! but just as good

This is the first day Ive been using this but so far it is great! I will have to get used to it, since Im so used to using Zombies Run. I tend to take long walks on a set route which would finish a Zombies episode per walk, but this is more meant to be taken around with you and run in the background, and then later you can listen to all the clips you unlocked, search for nearby items, etc. I am still using this on my walks and I just check the app every 10 minutes or so to listen to the next clip. It has been smart enough to know when I am actually walking and when I am just standing/sitting - probably by using gps. Im not sure if I would be able to have it playing on my way to work for example, where I walk a while, then hop on a bus, then walk a while more. Would it think I was moving while on the bus? I dont want to cheat.

The Walk

I must say I am disappointed. I thought I could walk with my iPhone in my pocket and it would perhaps alert me when Id reached checkpoints, but no, I need to carry my iPhone in my hand and constantly check it and manage it with bare hands. Its winter! Its -20 C! I froze my hands, dropped my iPhone in a snow bank when I fell on the ice, missed all the points of interest in the dark, (It gets dark at 3 PM) killed the battery, then lost all the data for my return trip. Now I cant seem to grasp how to even proceed with the third episode. Id rather just simply go for a walk without the bother and frustration.

Fun game, battery drain

The walk is a fun game that will more than motivate you to get off your couch. The voice acting is decent and the story is exciting enough to keep you entertained. On a technical level, theres bound to be visible battery drain on any app that uses GPS as often as the walk does. As a 5S owner, its nice that the app apparently makes use of the M7, but wouldnt it make more sense to allow the 5S to simply not use the GPS at all and rely solely on the M7 step data? Either way, if youre used to running and walking apps the battery drain wont be a hurdle for you to get passed.

Disappointing

After the thrill of Zombies, Run! this was a let down. Its not intuitive at all to use, and it took me an entire episode of missed checkpoints and features to figure out even the basics. The app essentially requires that you have your phone in hand at all times, which simply isnt practical. I just started a "challenge," but the instructions were unclear and now I cant seem to go back, which means Im likely to fail the challenge and have to go back. Im looking forward to the return of Zombies, Run! I the spring. I like it much better.

Excellent App

I was not sure I would make use of an app like this in my workouts but I have become addicted. The story is compelling and I find that the minor inconvenience of looking at it every 20 minutes or so is really no issue. An improvement could be proximity auto-play. Not fun trying to move to the next audio clip in the snow or rain. It does work better outside and that is a drawback during dark cold winter months when treadmills etc tend to get max use. Overall, despite these small inconveniences I give it 4/5. Now, give us the rest of the episodes!

Not bad in current form. But not great must buy either.

I enjoyed Zombies, Run! enough that I bought this app without delay when it was released. But I have to say that in the app isnt much beyond a pedometer. You can take your phone out of your pocket every 15 minutes or so of walking to tap at a couple of things on the screen but as an interactivity element Im really not happy with it. For one thing it is dang cold outside right now so my walking is done in such an environment that Im not going to stop to scan the digital screen. You dont need to do this to complete the story aspect of The Walk so it is unlikely they will change this element either way. The story is ok. I prefer the way it comes in Zombies, Run! if for no other reason than it plays mixed in with my music/podcasts while Im running. I havent found a way to get it to play the story elements on its own, which makes sense as it also tracks my walking all day and I wouldnt want a story element to be played while Im walking down a hallway at work.

Love this app

My favourite app. I find myself walking the long way home so I can open more clues.
